About Debipur

Debipur is a census town in Bardhaman district of the Indian state of West Bengal. It comes under the Kanska police station of Durgapur sub division, Debipur is surrounded by Nimo I - II, Bagila, Durgapur, Amadpur and Gantar. Debipur is located at the distance of 39 km from its district headquarters - Barddhaman, 5 km from Memari - 1 block and 78 km from the state capital - Kolkata. It shares borders from the Barddhaman district and Hooghly district towards east. The postal head office is located in Memari block while it has its own sub office branch.

Geography of Debipur

Debipur cordinates at 23°27'00'North and 87°27'29'East with an altitude of 62 feet. The summer season here remains at an average of 35 °C especially in the months of May and June. The people of this region enjoy precipitation during the months of July and August, which can last up to September. Furthermore, the average temperature of winter season in Debipur is 12°C to 15°C. The beautiful town of Debipur in Bardhaman district does not have many tourist attractions but it has a religious site in the shape of Laxmi Janardan Mandir where many devotees come to pay their devotion to the Almighty. It is one of the finest terracotta temples in the entire region of West Bengal. In the year 1840, the Zamindar of Debipur, Narottam Sinha brought some land from the Dewan of Bardhaman region in order to establish the Laxmi Janardan Mandir. However, it was completed in the year 1856 with a wonderful illustration of terracotta relief work.

The temple has also been popular for its sixty foot high 'Shikhara', which is adorned with traditional way of 'rekh-deul' style. This style is usually connected with the structures of Orissa. Another exotic feature of this temple is that the each square inch of the front face of this historical temple is comprised of intricate terracotta design. Therefore, visiting at this temple will definitely be a special experience for any travel vacationer. Nevertheless, one can reach at this temple by take a local train from Howrah Railway Station to Debipur Railway Station and then take a bus from the station to Sibtala which is around 5 km distance.

Debipur is quite reachable from the major towns of West Bengal. One can reach here through road or flight by arriving at the nearest airport - Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata. But for the travel seekers, the best way to arrive at this census town of Barddhaman district is via railways. The town has its own railway station in the presence of Debipur Railway Station, which is well connected to other foremost cities. Besides that, Bagila Railway Station (4 km), Bainchi Railway Station (5 km) and Memari Railway Station (7 km) are also nearby located.
